I am very pleased to have been selected as a recipient of this years SSA New Graduate Award.
The Society of Scottish Artists is an artist-led, non-profit organisation, which was founded in 1891. It holds its Annual Open Exhibition presenting a showcase of the best of contemporary art to an audience of over 11,000 people.
This year, the 118th Annual Exhibition of the Society of Scottish Artists will occupy the majority of the RSA Upper Galleries, Edinburgh during December 2015 and January 2016.
Since the early 1970’s, members of the Council of the SSA have visited the Scottish Degree Shows each year to select the best work from the new graduates for inclusion in the Annual Exhibition.
Historically the SSA has been a platform for artists such as Graham Fagen, Jenny Saville, Peter Howson, Douglas Gordon and Toby Paterson.
I am particularly delight to accept this award as the SSA has strong links with artist George Wyllie MBE (1921-2012) – Wyllie was SSA President from 1986 to 1989. Over the last few years, I have been an archive photographer of Wyllie’s work, working closely with his family and the George Wyllie Foundation to document artworks and exhibitions.
